Design with Larry - Working with Clare Pardoe

Draft and Designing Sea Creature jewelry with Clare Pardoe

When working with a client it is important to view the concepts presented with an open mind. There are many times that a designer gets on his or her own track and when it comes to working with people that are not able to draw their concepts well; it is important to do ones best to win them over with a very neutral attitude.

In the case of Clare's earring, this was concept that she created herself, my hands were the instrument that held the pencil that brought the design to the point that she wanted to reach.

When I say neutral I don’t mean passive; I mean with a helpful , kind direction that will make them feel that they had the greatest input even though I or you were doing the art work. Being able to do this comes with years of working with other people that can’t do what you do. Developing a behavior that draws them in to work with you and in the end both sides are full filled. Both the aspiring would be designer and the teacher/ facilitator.

Working with Clare Pardoe was one of these moments and doing the design’s the why she wanted them was achieved using this method. Clare I hope you are still trying to do your designs the way we were doing them while you were here.

Working with Pranda

After 25 years of working for Pranda I mentioned that fact to the CEO/ founder of the company Mr. Prida and he said he wanted to have a dinner for me.

I was so pleased, a month or so passed and Mr Prida suggested tying the dinner party to the last day of the Jewelry Fair and we looked forward to this event.

So it came to pass that an assembly of around 50 persons attended the function of celebrating 3 separate evens in one.

George the head of North American sales was retiring and Mr Bertrandi was going to get married to his girl friend after 30 years living together, and my 25th anniversary celebration.

Since this story is mainly about my experience with Pranda, Mr. Prida addressed my many years of good service by presented me with a 25th year presentation shown below.
" Phenix and the Dragon "

As Mr Prida reminded me I was the Phenix and not the Dragon. He might be right I was always coming up out of the ashes.

Thank you for being so kind over all these years.

Working with Lord Jasper May

Lord Jasper and I are here talking about the market that he is working in and that market is very conservative. The simplicity of lines is very important because the English client is not apt to be very dynamic. It doesn’t mean that they are out od step with the world but actually prefer that the do their own thing. So needless to say we try to keep it on track and below are a few examples of that conservative styling. Please take the time to listen to Lord Jasper and I as we chat about what we do and how it works.

Ring Designs

The rings that are shown in this small collection are fast thoughts based on a previous ring that I designed. I thought I would show a few other concepts in this style keeping them simple without to much elaboration. The theme has basically a center layout with a thin wire sub support in there shanks. The shanks are all derived from the same concept , a double wire concept giving some volume without mass. this is a very light weight concept. Another thing that should be noticed is when I was doing the rough layouts I noticed that there might be an interesting concept that could develop if I used a mirror showing a reflection of the first style .  When I turned the mirror at different angles it stimulated my imagination to see a new concept. Can you se those concept in these designs shown on this page. What I would like to offer in the next layout sheet are the different side views and how I do those layouts. I hope you might find this interesting. Comment or Con...

DESIGNING with THE LINE - The Pendant - STRAIGHT LINE, "V" LINE, CURVED LINE, & "S" LINE

DESIGNING with THE Pendant - The Curved Line - STRAIGHT LINE, "V" LINE, CURVED LINE, & "S" LINE   As you see from the previous page, the S shape was not quite right and balance. Now we are looking from the different perspectives "The Pendant" Here are the four basic shapes. How do you feel about them ? Do they seem to work as pendants. In my opinion the answer is yes ; and the range of design will be show in Illustrator path formate. Remember these are all basic concepts and are simple presented to help you understand jewelry in its basic form. The Design Sideview The differing side views can make these simple pendants very interesting. Later diamonds will be added and I will do a pencil shading exercise and a full rendering in color of each style. The side views will help the model maker to see clearer about how the design needs to be done. Note above the side views they are numbered 1 thru 3 with the front ...
