DESIGNING with THE LINE - The Pendant - STRAIGHT LINE, "V" LINE, CURVED LINE, & "S" LINE

DESIGNING with THE Pendant - The Curved Line - STRAIGHT LINE, "V" LINE, CURVED LINE, & "S" LINE

As you see from the previous page, the S shape was not quite right and balance. Now we are looking from the different perspectives "The Pendant"

Here are the four basic shapes.

How do you feel about them ?
Do they seem to work as pendants. In my opinion the answer is yes ; and the range of design will be show in Illustrator path formate. Remember these are all basic concepts and are simple presented to help you understand jewelry in its basic form.

The Design Sideview

The differing side views can make these simple pendants very interesting.
Later diamonds will be added and I will do a pencil shading exercise and a full rendering in color of each style.

The side views will help the model maker to see clearer about how the design needs to be done.
Note above the side views they are numbered 1 thru 3 with the front view to their left.

In the simple front view it will take using your imagination to visualize how the side might appear.
Each side view is different but the side views keep in mind that they must follow the front design presentation. #3 to the right is very different than it's two counter parts to it's left. There is a double layer effect that creates a more modern look.
In the front view there is a crease at its mid point that line would appear in all 3 side view designs.
More will be said about this concept as we move along.

Different designs from various type of line

We are still using the simple lines like V, Curved, straight or S lines to create the different design. Starting from the earrings.

Earrings design from various type of line
Earrings design from various type of line

The earrings above are to match the simple line designs presented earlier.
The range of design can be very broad and are not confined only to this assortment of drop stick earring.
They doing your on styLes as well.
These are connected by a small ring to allow them to be flexible. Length can vary from short to very long.
We now move onto rings.

Above are 4 basic ring concepts to match the total collection.
They are simple and are presented in a double ring effect creating more interest in the ring duo.

Note that one is thinner than the other and this might even be a separate ring worn as a ring in another color such as a gold and a silver set. Different textures can also be made to each ring and would be more interesting. I will do pencil shading and color rendering on these pieces to make my point. In the next group of designs;  I will add a new approach to the design layout.

Here they are!

Design based on the straight line from the different approach.

Here are three designs with their root that started with the straight LINE.
The three designs are in a transition.
A new element has been added at its transitional change.
A triangle,  a square/ rectangle and an oval/ round.
Note that the second section in these small necklaces has altered as well to help in the change as they descend on the design concept.

In the next example you see how a pencil drawing is done in the Illustrator Path program.
Sizes can affect the mood of the design as well. The small size bring a simple beauty to these styles.

Continue to size and the effect of the sizes on the design

Working with Lord Jasper May

Lord Jasper and I are here talking about the market that he is working in and that market is very conservative. The simplicity of lines is very important because the English client is not apt to be very dynamic. It doesn’t mean that they are out od step with the world but actually prefer that the do their own thing. So needless to say we try to keep it on track and below are a few examples of that conservative styling. Please take the time to listen to Lord Jasper and I as we chat about what we do and how it works.
